Hush Fragile Momma, Everything is Going to Be Alright

2023 "Hush Fragile Momma, Everything is Going to Be Alright" expresses my journey through anxiety and apprehension during the birth of my son. Confronted with his complications at birth and the subsequent ten-day NICU stay, the anguish of separation was a constant present as I yearned to cradle him in my arms. And the desolate silence of our home after leaving the hospital without him was echoed by the absence of his cries and an empty bassinet. In the video piece, I depict this emotional odyssey through symbolism. Adorned with labels bearing the weight of fragility and the imperative for silence, my bare back becomes a canvas of vulnerability. As I embrace my son, we twirl in fragmented circles reminiscent of a music box with the lullaby, “Hush Little Baby”. Each revolution is a testament to resilience.
